Title: Trust – The Foundation for a Cohesive Effective Team

Purpose Statement:
Workplace managers and supervisors need knowledge and skills to lead collaborative and productive teams. An important area to develop knowledge and skills in is in the area of trust. Trust is an important concept that when established and maintained will lay a solid foundation for building a cohesive and effective team. Healthy communication skills and ways to improve employee engagement will be expanded on as it relates to increasing trust in the workplace.

Paul Lencioni in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team states that, “Trust lies at the heart of a functioning, cohesive team. Without it, teamwork is all but impossible.”

The observation and intervention steps for the employee distracted by chemical abuse will meet participating state requirements for an hour of drug and alcohol supervisor training in drug testing in their drugfree workplaces.

Objectives:

  1. Articulate the benefit of building a solid foundation of trust in the workplace.
  2. Participate in exercises to increase skills toward developing trust and engagement in your team.
  3. Identify specific ways toward building trust on a team through case examples and scenarios.
  4. Explore ways to improve healthy communication skills and employee engagement toward building a solid foundation of trust.
  5. Identify work performance problems and dysfunctions most often related to substance abuse.
  6. Practice effective and ethical workplace interventions with troubled employees.

    • Valuing Employees
  3. Healthy communication skills and strategies to enhance trust building
  4. Ways to increase employee engagement in the workplace
  5. (10 minute break)
  6. Identify symptoms of drug misuse/abuse including new synthetic drugs and how these can impact employee job performance/safety.
  7. Conclusion – EAP Referral

Continuing Education credit: The half-day annual regional seminar will include 2.5 clock hours of training.
